Dover – The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit has arrested a man in connection with an incident at Alder Park Apartments in which three people were assaulted and shots were fired.

The incident occurred around 1:25 a.m. Friday September 1, 2017 when troopers responded to 51 Webbs Lane, “K” building for a report of shots fired.  As troopers and officers from Dover Police Department arrived on scene, multiple people and vehicles were observed fleeing from the area.  Through the investigation it was determined that there was a party taking place in apartment “K5” when a physical altercation ensued between Khalil-Mahl T. Hanzer, 23 of Magnolia, and a 21-year-old male who was struck in the forearm by a handgun Hanzer produced.  A 20-year-old female attempted to break up the argument when Hanzer struck her in the forehead with a handgun.  Hanzer also struck a 20-year-old male in the back of the head with the handgun as he was trying to break up the fight.  At some point, Hanzer discharged the firearm inside the apartment before fleeing the area.

The 20-year old male and female were transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where they were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.  It is unknown if the 21-year-old victim sought immediate medical attention.

No other injuries were reported.

Khalil Hanzer was developed as a suspect in this case through investigative measures and was taken into custody by detectives on Tuesday October 17, 2017 after he was observed leaving a residence at Alder Park Apartments.  A search warrant was obtained on the apartment and detectives located a 9mm handgun.  He was charged with Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Possession of a Weapon with Obliterated Serial Number, three counts of Assault 2nd, three counts of Reckless Endangering 1st, and three counts of Aggravated Menacing.  He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $154,000.00 cash bond.
