Community Engagement Unit
The Delaware State Police Community Engagement Unit was created to foster positive relationships with communities throughout the First State and provide training and presentations to community members. The Delaware State Police believes that its commitment to building partnerships with residential and business communities across Delaware will strengthen its ability to serve as a highly effective law enforcement agency. This work creates stronger, safer neighborhoods grounded in trust in the police. To support these efforts, DSP maintains a presence in community schools, places of worship, neighborhood associations, and civic organizations. By engaging openly and honestly with communities in our state, we will build positive relationships, help create safer communities, and encourage dialogue about the challenging issues and perceptions facing law enforcement and the communities we serve.

The Citizens Police Academy gives the chance to explore a variety of engaging police activities aligned with current Delaware State Police operations. The Academy covers classroom lessons on evidence processing, criminal and traffic investigations, tours of DSP facilities, familiarization with special units, and more. Participants will also get the chance to ride along with patrol troopers.
This session is limited to 20 participants, and background checks will be conducted on all applicants.
