*Update* Troopers Investigating Serious Crash- Bridgeville

Date Posted: Wednesday, October 16th, 2019

Bridgeville–  The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a serious crash that has turned fatal.

The incident occurred on October 13, 2019 at approximately 12:44 p.m., when a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway, east of Oak Road. A 2015 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup, was towing a trailer carrying an amusement park ride, traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway a distance behind the Jetta.  The operator of the Jetta pulled his vehicle onto the eastbound shoulder of Seashore Highway in preparation to make a U-turn. After coming to a complete stop, the operator of the Jetta attempted the U-turn at the same time the pickup was approaching the location.  As a result, the front of the pickup struck the left side of the Jetta within the eastbound travel lane of Seashore Highway.

A rear seat passenger in the Jetta, a 25-year-old Joao D. Ferraz from Rockville, MD was properly restrained.  He was initially transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and later transferred to the Christina Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on October 14, 2019.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
