Troopers Arrest Three Following Series Of Robberies

Newark, DE- Delaware State Police Robbery Unit detectives have arrested three men and have charged them in connection with a series of armed robberies which have occurred in the Newark area since the end of last month.

On Saturday, October 8, 2016, at approximately 9:00 p.m., members of the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T.) arrested Jeffrey S. Cushner, 29, of Newark, and Andrew J. Boggs, 27, of New Castle, as Cushner prepared to commit the armed robbery of the Rite Aid Pharmacy located at 4607 Stanton-Ogletown Road, Newark. Jeffrey Cushner and Andrew Boggs, who was the operator of the car used in the robbery, were both transported to Troop 2, where after further investigation it was learned that David West, 30,of Newark, had also participated in the attempted robbery of the Rite Aid. West was subsequently taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 2 as well.

Jeffrey Cushner was charged by Delaware State Police Robbery Unit detectives with four counts of Robbery 1st Degree, five counts of Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony, four counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree, and Attempted Robbery 1st Degree. He was arraigned at JP Court and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in default of $32,000.00 cash bail.

Andrew Boggs was charged by detectives with two counts of Robbery 1st Degree, three counts of Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of  a Felony, four counts of Conspiracy 2nd degree, and Attempted Robbery 1st Degree. he was arraigned at JP Court 11 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in default of $20,000.00 cash bail.

David West was charged by detectives with Attempted Robbery 1st degree, and two counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree. He was arraigned at JP Court 11 and released after posting $5000.00 secured bail.

Detectives were able to link Cushner and Boggs to a series of armed robberies which had been occurring in the Newark area over the past few weeks. In each incident, a male suspect would enter the targeted business and display an unknown make and model handgun. He would then confront an employee of the business and demand money from the cash registers. After receiving the money, the suspect would exit the building and flee in an unknown direction. There were no injuries in any of the incidents.

Delaware State Police detectives were able to link Cushner, Boggs, and West to the below list of robberies:

  2. 7-11, 699 Chestnut Hill Road, Newark, Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 2:29 a.m.
  3. Exxon, 263 E. Chestnut Hill Road, Newark, Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 12:35 a.m.
  4. 7-11, 11 Red Mill Road, Newark, Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 3:20 a.m.
  5. Rite Aid, 4607 Stanton-Ogletown Road, Newark, Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 9:00 p.m. (Attempt Only)
