Wilmington – The Delaware State Police have charged 43 year old Idris D. Thomas of Bear, with his 6^th DUI, along with multiple drug and traffic related offenses, stemming from a hit and run crash that took place on I-95 Friday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:19 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2019 on I-95 northbound in the area of Churchman’s Rd., when Thomas, who was driving a gray Volkswagen Jetta, struck another vehicle and then failed to stop. The driver of the other vehicle who was not injured, observed the Jetta continue northbound, being driven in a reckless manner. Thomas eventually came to a stop on I-95 northbound in the area of I-495 where Troopers took him in to custody without incident. A subsequent search of his vehicle produced 23.72 grams of marijuana.

Thomas was transported to Troop 6 where further investigation determined that he was driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash and after a review of his driving record it was confirmed that he had 5 prior DUI convictions.

Thomas was ultimately charged with the following:

• 6th Offense DUI (drugs)
• Possession of Marijuana
• Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Collision
• Failure to Report a Property Damage Collision
• Aggressive Driving
• Driving at an Unsafe Speed
• Following Too Close
• Failure to Signal
• Driving Suspended

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $10,503.00 secured bail.
