Date Posted: Thursday, October 29th, 2026

The Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Wednesday morning in New Castle.

On October 28, 2026, at approximately 8:45 a.m., a Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on West Basin Road, in the left turn lane, approaching Washington Avenue. At the same time, a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling northbound on West Basin Road, in the right lane, approaching Washington Avenue. For reasons still under investigation, both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time. As a result, the front of the Tahoe struck the passenger’s side of the Hyundai causing the Hyundai to strike a traffic signal pole.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 30-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital where she died. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 21-year-old man from New Castle, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
