The Delaware State Police have arrested 24-year-old Dakota Carey, of Hartly Delaware, following shooting incidents that occurred Thursday night and last month in Hartly.

On August 13, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., troopers responded to the unit block of Slaughter Station Road in Hartly for a report of a shooting incident. When troopers arrived, they learned that unknown suspect fired an unknown number of shots that struck an occupied residence. No one was injured. While troopers and detectives were on scene, additional shots were heard and the rounds struck tree branches overhead. It was discovered that the shots were coming from a residence nearby on Judy’s Truck Drive.

When troopers arrived at the residence on Judy’s Truck Drive, they saw a man, identified as Dakota Carey, exiting a detached garage with what appeared to be a gun. He was taken into custody without incident. It was determined that Carey was the suspect in the shooting and the shooting incident that occurred in July.

Carey was taken to Troop 3, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace, and released after posting a $26,500 secured bond.
