Superintendent Colonel William D. Crotty
The Delaware State Police is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Friday afternoon in Wilmington.
On February 27, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a Harley-Davidson was traveling north on DuPont Highway (US 13) approaching the intersection with Millside Drive in Wilmington. At the same time, a Lexus UX was stopped behind a Mitsubishi Mirage in the left turn lane at that intersection. For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle collided with the rear of the Lexus. As a result, the motorcyclist was ejected from the Harley-Davidson, and the Lexus was pushed into the Mitsubishi.
The motorcyclist, a 29-year-old male from New Castle, Delaware, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours for the preliminary crash investigation.
The investigation is still ongoing by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. Troopers ask anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information to contact Master Corporal R. Kunicki at (302) 365-8417. Information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
