The Delaware State Police have arrested 28-year-old Marcus McClain of New Castle, Delaware, for attempted robbery of the Dover Federal Credit Union in New Castle on Saturday.

On February 21, 2026, at approximately 10:50 a.m., troopers responded to the Dover Federal Credit Union, located at 499 Pulaski Highway in New Castle, after receiving a bank alarm activation.  Bank employees reported that McClain entered the bank wearing a face mask and gloves and initially refused to remove them despite their requests.  McClain eventually removed the mask but kept his gloves on, approached a teller, and wrote a dollar amount on a piece of paper.  After he would not provide identification or an account number, the teller became increasingly uncomfortable, notified co-workers, and ultimately activated the bank alarm.

When troopers arrived, McClain was still inside the bank and was arrested without incident. During a search of McClain, troopers found a black pellet gun, resembling a Colt Python Revolver, concealed in his waistband. The Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit assumed the investigation.  Detectives learned that the pellet gun was not used during the incident, McClain was not a bank customer, and there was no financial loss.

McClain was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with the offenses listed below, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11, and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $65,000 cash bond.
