Fatal

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred yesterday afternoon in Delmar that left one man dead.

On September 7, 2023, at approximately 5:51 p.m., a white 2018 Hyundai Tucson was traveling northbound on BiState Boulevard north of Allens Mill Road. Just north of the Tucson, a man on a motorized skateboard was riding in the center of BiState Boulevard. For unknown reasons, the man swerved right in the Tucson’s path. The Tucson swerved right to avoid the pedestrian, however, he continued into the northbound lane and was struck by the Tucson. Due to the impact, the pedestrian was forced onto the windshield before falling off and coming to rest in the northbound lane of BiState Boulevard. The Tucson continued swerving right and struck a mailbox on private property.

The person who was struck, a 27-year-old man from Laurel, Delaware, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Tucson, a 21-year-old woman from Fruitland, Maryland, was not injured. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
