Detectives Investigating Bank Robbery

Date Posted: Sunday, June 25th, 2023

The Delaware State Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred yesterday afternoon in the University Plaza shopping center in Newark.

On June 24, 2023, at approximately 12:30 p.m., an unknown black male suspect walked into the Acme located at 1 University Drive and approached the teller at the Citizens Bank inside of the grocery store. The suspect presented a note and demanded money from the teller and the branch manager. When the suspect threatened to start shooting, the victims complied, and the suspect fled from the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Responding troopers attempted to find the suspect in the surrounding area but were unable to locate him.

Neither then 31-year-old bank teller nor the 45-year-old branch manager was injured. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6’00” tall with an average build. He was wearing a face covering and a dark jacket. Surveillance images and video are not yet available.
