The Delaware State Police arrested a 17-year-old Glasgow High School student, from Newark, Delaware, on firearm and related charges after a loaded handgun was discovered in his backpack Monday afternoon.

On September 14, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Glasgow High School, located at 1901 South College Avenue in Newark, responded to a report of a fight in one of the school’s hallways. The SRO, along with school staff, intervened and separated the students involved in the fight, including the 17-year-old.

During the investigation, the SRO learned the 17-year-old had removed his backpack prior to the fight, and that the backpack contained marijuana. A subsequent search of the backpack resulted in the recovery of a loaded handgun and a small quantity of marijuana.
