State Police Investigating a Fatal Crash on Sandtown Road in Felton

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday in Felton.

On May 10, 2026, at approximately 4:50 p.m., a Kia Sorento was traveling northbound on Sandtown Road south of Willow Grove Road in Felton.  The preliminary investigation revealed that the Sorento was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed, passed two vehicles in a no passing zone, then failed to negotiate a curve. As a result, the Sorento exited the west edge of the road and struck two unoccupied commercial trucks and trailers in a parking lot.

The driver, an 80-year-old man from Goldsboro, Maryland, was not properly restrained and taken to an area hospital where he died. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The investigation is still ongoing by the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Troopers ask anyone who witnessed or has information about the crash to contact Master Corporal W. Booth by calling (302) 698-8451.
