Superintendent Colonel William D. Crotty
Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred early this morning near Farmington.
On July 6, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling southbound on Shawnee Road, just south of Breezy Meadow Lane, at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. For reasons still under investigation, the truck veered off the east side of the roadway, striking a tree with the left rear side of the vehicle. The truck then continued south and crashed head-on with a second tree.
The driver, a 21-year-old man from Greenwood, was not properly restrained at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.
Shawnee Road was partially closed for approximately three and a half hours while members of the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash and cleared the roadway.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information is asked to contact Senior Corporal J. Smith at (302) 703-3267. Information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
