Delaware State Police arrested 44-year-old Donald Renfer of Chittenango, New York, for aggravated menacing following a road rage incident that occurred on Route 1 in Dover yesterday afternoon.

On April 18, 2025, at approximately 3:49 p.m., troopers responded to the Wawa, located at 500 Jimmy Drive, Smyrna, for a report of a road rage incident involving a firearm. In the ensuing investigation, troopers learned that the victim was involved in a road rage incident on Route 1 northbound, just north of the Dover Toll Plaza, with a white GMC pickup truck. During the incident, the suspect allegedly displayed a firearm, and threw a bottle at the victim’s vehicle, which was occupied by the 48-year-old victim and her 2 grandchildren. The GMC then continued northbound on Route 1. Shortly after the incident, the victim arrived at the Wawa in Smyrna, and observed the GMC truck at the gas pumps. Upon arriving at the Wawa, troopers made contact with the GMC’s operator, identified as Donald Renfer, and took him into custody without incident. A search of the GMC led to the discovery of a loaded black handgun, and additional magazines in the vehicle. Troopers further learned 2 children were in the GMC during the incident.

Renfer was taken to Troop 3, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $24,750 secured bond.
