The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred this morning in Newark that left one man dead.
On March 4, 2025, at approximately 6:19 a.m., a 2013 Honda CR-V was stopped in the left turn lane on Christiana Road westbound, west of Browns Lane, attempting to turn left into University Plaza. At the same time, a 2018 Honda Pilot was traveling in the right lane of Christiana Road eastbound, east of Chapman Road. For reasons under investigation, the CR-V proceeded to turn left and entered directly into the Pilot’s path of travel. As a result, the front of the Pilot collided with the right side of the CR-V in the eastbound lanes of Christiana Road.
The driver of the CR-V, an 84-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.
The driver of the Pilot, a 46-year-old woman from Elkton, Maryland, was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The Pilot’s passengers, a 15-year-old female and an 8-year-old female, were also taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared the roadway.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this crash. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please contact Trooper First Class N.
