State Police Investigating Fatal Three-Car Crash

Date Posted: Monday, July 31st, 2023

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Delmar earlier today that left one woman dead.

On July 31, 2023, at approximately 6:15 a.m., a maroon 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling southbound on Sussex Highway just south of West Snake Road. At the same time, a black 2012 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on Sussex Highway approaching East Snake Road, with a silver 2006 Chevrolet Impala traveling behind it. For unknown reasons, the Monte Carlo began to slide to its left and went into the grass median. It crossed the median and went into the northbound lanes of Sussex Highway, where the front of the oncoming Camry struck the right side of the Monte Carlo. This caused both cars to start rotating and led to the front of the Monte Carlo colliding with the front of the northbound Impala.

The driver of the Monte Carlo, a 19-year-old man from Seaford, Delaware, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Camry, a 51-year-old woman from Delmar, Maryland, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name is being withheld until her family and relatives are notified.

The passenger of the Camry, a 55-year-old man from Delmar, Maryland, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Impala, a 64-year-old man from Salisbury, Maryland, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Sussex Highway was closed for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
