State Police Investigating Attempted Carjacking in Newark

The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted carjacking that occurred early Sunday morning at Wawa in Newark.

On July 16, 2023, at approximately 12:19 a.m., troopers responded to Wawa, located at 4651 Ogletown Stanton Road, for an attempted carjacking. The investigation revealed that the victim, a 23-year-old man from Newark, was pumping gas when two black male suspects approached his driver’s side door. One suspect lifted his shirt and displayed a handgun in his waistband. After the victim ran away, the suspects attempted to steal the car. However, their attempt was unsuccessful and they escaped in an unidentified vehicle.

There were no reported injuries following the incident. The suspects are described as two black males wearing black masks and dark-colored clothing. Surveillance images and video are not available at this time.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Robbery Unit is investigating this incident. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact Detective D. Armstrong by calling 302-365-8440. Information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
