Delaware State Police Investigating Single Vehicle Fatal Collision

Date Posted: Sunday, June 11th, 2023

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single motor vehicle collision that occurred in the Millsboro area early this morning.

On June 11, 2023, at approximately 1:33 a.m., a 2014 Ford Mustang, operated by a 26-year-old male from Georgetown, DE, was traveling westbound on Harmons Hill Road approaching a slight left curve east of Hollyville Road. The operator failed to maintain control of the vehicle and it exited the south edge of the roadway while rotating counterclockwise. The right rear of the Ford then struck a large metal utility pole. As a result of this impact, the vehicle rotated violently in a clockwise direction and came to rest just south of the utility pole.

The 26-year-old male operator of the Ford was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Later that day, the operator/victim succumbed to his injuries while in the hospital and was pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The male front-seat passenger in the Ford was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.

Harmons Hill Road in the area of the collision was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please contact Sergeant J. Burns by calling 302-703-3269. Information may also be provided by sending a Private Facebook Message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
