Superintendent Colonel William Crotty
On May 31, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., Troop 6 will be lowering its flags and closing its doors so the construction of a new, state-of-the-art complex can begin. The current building will be demolished and the new Troop 6 will be raised at the same location, but with improved facilities so troopers can better serve those in northern Delaware.
Troop 6 first opened its doors in 1970 to serve the citizens and visitors of the Kirkwood Highway corridor and northern New Castle County. Troopers assigned to Troop 6 are often seen throughout the Wilmington area, at the Christiana Mall, and on Interstate 95. Troop 6 troopers will continue to patrol these same areas during the construction of their new home, and there will be no interruption in police services or presence.
Troop 6 administration will temporarily relocate to Troop 2 in Newark. The phone number to Troop 6 will remain the same (302-633-5000).
The gallery below illustrates several site renderings for the new building, which will allow Troop 6 to continue the tradition of excellence in policing that began at 3301 Kirkwood Highway over 50 years ago. Click to enlarge the images.
