Delaware State Police Investigating Single Vehicle Fatal Collision

Date Posted: Tuesday, April 11th, 2023

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single motor vehicle collision that occurred in the Wilmington area early this morning.

On April 11, 2023, at approximately 1:31 a.m., a 2007 Chevrolet Impala operated by a 25-year-old female of Wilmington, DE, was traveling southbound I-95 in the left middle lane approaching the overpass for Route 141. For unknown reasons, the Impala veered to the right and crossed through the right middle and right lane. During this time the Impala began to rotate in a clockwise direction. The Impala then entered the right shoulder where the front left of the vehicle struck the guardrail. The collision caused the guardrail to become detached and penetrated the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The 25-year-old female operator of the Impala who was not wearing a seatbelt was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The 28-year-old female passenger who was not wearing a seatbelt was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The three right lanes of southbound Interstate 95 were closed for approximately 5 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please contact Master Corporal J. Forester by calling 302-365-8485. Information may also be provided by sending a Private Facebook Message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
