Date Posted: Saturday, October 9th, 2021

Camden- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Friday evening in Camden.

On October 08, 2021, at approximately 4:39 p.m., a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by a 57-year-old Clayton man was traveling southbound on South DuPont Highway (SR 13) approaching Old North Road. At this time, a gray 2019 Jeep Cherokee, was stopped in the left turn lane of northbound S. Dupont Highway, preparing to turn westbound onto Old North Road.  When the traffic light turned green, the Jeep began its left turn towards Old North Road. All traffic on S. Dupont Highway was stopped for the southbound red signal at this time. As the Jeep was proceeding to make the left turn, the Harley motorcycle entered the left shoulder of S. Dupont Highway passing several stopped cars. The Harley failed to stop at the red light and entered the intersection. As the Jeep entered the intersection the front of the Jeep struck the front of the Harley.

After impact, the operator was thrown from motorcycle in a southwesterly direction. The 57-year-old operator of the Harley was transported to Bayhealth Hospital Kent Campus, where he later died from his injuries.  His identification is pending notification to the next of kin.

The 51-year-old male operator of the Jeep was not injured during the collision.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the collision was investigated, and the roadway cleared.

This collision remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information regarding the crash should contact Master Corporal William Booth by calling 302-697-4454.
