Newark – The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Newark area gas station that occurred this morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:26 a.m., Monday, August 2, 2021, at the Liberty gas station, located at 728 East Chestnut Hill Road, Newark, when troopers responded to a knife point robbery. Investigation determined a male suspect entered the store and confronted a male employee behind the sales counter. The suspect displayed a knife and demanded money from the register. The employee complied with demands and opened the cash register. The suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the store on foot westbound towards the Chestnut Hill Estates development. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male approximately 30-35 years old, 5’10”- 6’0” tall, 180-200 lbs., wearing a light colored shirt, dark pants and shoes with a mask.
