Harbeson Man Arrested on Felony Criminal Charges- Harbeson

Date Posted: Thursday, June 3rd, 2021

Harbeson, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Russel E. Leibensperger, 43, from Harbeson, on Wednesday night for criminal charges.

On June 2, 2021, at approximately 9:44 p.m., troopers responded to the 21000 block of Harbeson Road. The investigation determined the 62-year-old female and 63-year-old male residents were home when Leibensperger knocked on the front door. The female opened the door, leaving the storm door closed, and discovered Leibensperger standing on the front porch. Leibensperger told the female he knew how to get in before exiting the porch when she retrieved the phone to call 9-1-1. As she was on the phone with the dispatch center, Leibensperger knocked on the residence’s back door and held a folding knife in his hand. The female did not open the door for fear he would cause physical harm to her. The suspect then ran around the side of the house, and the victim lost sight of him. No one was injured during the incident.

As troopers were on scene investigating the incident, Leibensperger exited the surrounding wooded area on foot and began walking on Harbeson Road when he was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to Troop 7, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Aggravated Menacing (Felony)
  • Criminal Trespass Second Degree
  • Drunk on a Highway

Leibensperger was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $67,300 cash bond.
