Troopers Investigating Attempted Carjacking – Claymont

Claymont – The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted carjacking that took place in the parking lot of a McDonald’s.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:54 p.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2021 in the parking lot of the McDonald’s located at 2702 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont. A 41-year-old male victim was inside of his vehicle waiting to exit the parking lot of the McDonald’s and turn onto Philadelphia Pike. An unknown male suspect approached the victim’s driver side window and displayed a handgun towards the victim. The suspect then ordered the victim out of the vehicle at gun point. As the suspect entered the vehicle, the victim was able to retrieve a bat from his trunk and immediately swung it towards the suspect. The suspect fled out of the passenger side of the vehicle and ran northbound on Philadelphia Pike. While the suspect fled the scene on foot, he dropped the handgun on the ground.

Troopers responded to the scene and recovered the handgun.

The suspect was described as a black male approximately 16-17 years of age, 5’7”-5’8” tall, 120-130 lbs., wearing all dark clothing. There are no surveillance images available at this time.
