Delaware State Police Starts New Community Initiative- Dover

Date Posted: Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021

Dover- Delaware State Police started a new community initiative despite obstacles faced during this challenging time.

On January 28, 2021, at 6:00 p.m., the Delaware State Police Community Outreach Unit launched the first Kent County Civilian Advisory Board (K.C.A.B.). Although the meeting was unable to meet in person, the Zoom meeting was the first step in creating partnerships and collaborations with community members and the Delaware State Police.

Kent County Community Outreach Officer Master Corporal Alfonso Jones said, “The purpose of the Civilian Advisory Board is a continued commitment to ongoing and proactive communication with our citizens, businesses, and community-based organizations.”

The board is focusing on the following four topics:

  • Identify policing needs within the community
  • Provide input on current or future Delaware State Police community educational programs
  • Strengthen Delaware State Police public safety practices and partnerships
  • Provide guidance on non-enforcement strategies to gain greater trust within the community

The board members are comprised of volunteers of various backgrounds to include community leaders, clergy, educators, youth advocates, and community outreach specialists. The board will be working alongside department members to review initiatives and look into ways to improve community engagement programs.
