Newark– Delaware State Police from Troop 6, Troop 2 Governor’s Task Force, and Newark PD participated in two supported Office of Highway Safety Racing Traffic Initiatives over the last two months that focused on aggressive driving, speeding, and dangerous moving violations to increase traffic safety for the motoring public.
Traffic enforcement efforts by Delaware State Police and Newark PD during the operation resulted in 37 speeding citations with 4 warnings, 1 driving under the influence arrest, 1 seatbelt violation, 1 cell phone violation, 1 red-light violation, 1 stop sign violation, 1 aggressive driver and 73 other traffic arrests. The operation also yielded 6 drug arrests including 3 felony arrests, and 1 other criminal arrest.
The joint initiative took place in the Newark area after numerous incidents involving illegal street racing.
The Delaware State Police and the Newark Police Department will continue their efforts to put a stop to illegal street racing and deter others from being a part of such illegal activity. Future initiatives are planned throughout the rest of the year.
