Superintendent Colonel William Crotty
Middletown- Delaware State Police and the Delaware State Trooper’s Association (DSTA), in collaboration with Nemours Alfred I. DuPont Hospital, helped make 5-year-old Imani McKinney’s dream come true.
In June 2019, Imani was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Imani has valiantly been battling this disease despite recently learning the disease is terminal.
On Thursday, August 27, 2020, Troopers provided Imani and her family a police escort from their residence in New Castle, DE, to Summit Aviation, located in Middletown. Imani and her family were met with a warm welcome by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, the DSTA, and uniformed Troopers. Imani was provided a tour of the airport hangar and sat inside a Delaware State Police helicopter. The DSTA provided lunch, and Imani received several gifts.
Imani’s family shared with the hospital staff that one of her final wishes was to go to Disney World in a helicopter. Through the collaborative efforts of many, the Delaware State Police was able to make part of Imani’s wish come true and provide a smile filled and memorable day and for a special little girl and her family.
