Traffic Stop Leads to 4th DUI and Criminal Charges

Harbeson – Delaware State Police have arrested a Milton man after it was determined that he was driving under the influence for the 4th time.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2020, as a Trooper observed a white, Dodge Ram pickup truck commit traffic violations on Martins Farm Road, Harbeson.  A traffic stop was initiated, and upon contact with the operator, identified as Eugene F. Frederick, 48, of Milton, a strong odor of alcohol was detected, which furthered a DUI investigation.

An inventory search of the vehicle was conducted and a hunting knife along with approximately .20 grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia were located inside.

A computer check revealed Frederick had 3 prior DUI convictions, making this his 4th offense. Frederick was subsequently arrested and transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:

  • 4th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by Person Prohibited
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (2 counts)
  • Speeding in Excess of Posted Limit
  • Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
  • Failure to maintain lane

Frederick was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #3 and then committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $10,606.00 secured bail.
