Delaware State Police Troop 7 Presents 2019 “Year in Review” to the Communities We Serve

Date Posted: Tuesday, February 18th, 2020

Lewes- The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Administration held a community meeting on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in Troop 7’s Community Room located at 19444 Mulberry Knoll Road, Lewes, led by Captain Darren Short.

The Administration at Troop 7 was privileged to have hosted a meeting where the public was provided with an overview of the great work done by the men and women of DSP Troop 7 in 2019.  The central conversation focused on the State Police functions, and the duties and responsibilities Troopers handle on a daily basis. Also discussed were rates of crimes, crashes and investigative clearances in Troop 7’s jurisdiction, and how our goals and objectives will be directed toward the reduction of crime and traffic crashes for a safer Delaware in 2020.

Troop 7 achieved a 63.6% clearance rate in robberies, a 27.6% clearance rate in burglaries, a 79.1% clearance rate in aggravated assaults, a 55.7 % clearance rate in shopliftings and a 36.7% clearance rate in thefts.  These clearance rates simply exemplifies the exceptional work the Troopers are doing and demonstrates their desire to solve crimes when they occur.  Moreover, Troop 7 had a 73% increase in proactive drug investigations.  When examining collisions, the overall total of crashes increased by .5%, however the number of pedestrian related crashes declined 34.8% .

In 2020, Troop 7 will have a multifaceted approach to crime reduction and traffic safety. Deployment strategies will focus on crash causing offenses and proactive criminal enforcement of the core crimes affecting the Troop 7 patrol territory based on the stratified policing model.

We truly appreciate and thank all those in attendance, including Secretary Robert Coupe, Senator Brian Pettyjohn, Representative Peter Schwartzkopf, Representative Ruth Briggs King, Representative Steve Smyk, Sussex County Council President Michael Vincent, Sussex County Council Douglas Hudson, Sussex County Administrator Todd Lawson and State Auditor Kathy McGuiness.
