Troopers Investigating Serious Crash Involving a Motorcycle – Magnolia

Magnolia, Delaware – The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that took place Friday night on Sophers Row northeast of Blue Spruce Drive, Magnolia.

The initial investigation has determined the incident occurred at approximately 9:41 p.m., Friday, June 21, 2019, as a Honda motorcycle, operated by a 23-year-old male of Magnolia, was traveling southbound on Sophers Row approaching Clapham Road. A 2004 Lexus 300, operated by a 29-year-old female of Magnolia, was backing her vehicle out of a private driveway in the 900 block of Sophers Row. The motorcycle struck the rear trunk area of the Lexus which caused the operator to be ejected from the motorcycle.

The operator of the motorcycle sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit to the Christiana Hospital where he was admitted for his injuries. A helmet was located at the scene however it is unknown if the operator was wearing it.

The driver of the Lexus nor her 33-year-old female passenger of Dover was injured in the collision. She was cited for Improper Backing.

The roadway in the area of the crash was shut down for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
