*Update* Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash-New Castle

New Castle– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred on May 18, 2019 at approximately 8:47 p.m., when a 2005 Acura MDX was traveling southbound on S. Dupont Highway (US RT 13) and entered into a crossover just north of Federal School Lane and came to a stop. The operator of the Acura proceeded to make the U-turn and entered into the left lane of US RT 13 northbound.  A 2004 Yamaha V6A was traveling northbound on US RT 13 in the left lane of travel.  The Acura entered into the path of the Yamaha and collided with same.  The operator of the Yamaha was ejected onto the roadway following the collision.

The operator of the Acura, a 78-year-old female from Wilmington was properly restrained and not injured.

The operator of the Yamaha, a 30-year-old male from Newark was wearing a helmet.  High speed is being considered a factor on his behalf.  He was transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced decease.  His name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

US RT 13 northbound was closed at Federal School Lane for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.
