*UPDATE* Troopers Investigating Serious Crash I-495 Southbound South of Philadelphia Pike – Claymont

Claymont – The Delaware State Police have charged 21 year old Muammer Macara of Bear, with Aggressive Driving and multiple other traffic violations stemming from a three vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 10:17 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2019, on southbound I-495, south of Philadelphia Pike in Claymont.

The investigation has determined that a 2013 Acura RSX, being driven by Macara was traveling I-495 southbound at an apparent high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic. As he proceeded southbound he rear-ended a 2016 Kia Soul, being driven by a 73 year old Philadelphia PA woman, that was southbound in the middle lane. After impact the Acura went airborne and collided with a 2005 Chevy Cobalt, being driven by a 59 year old woman also from Philadelphia, that was southbound in the left lane. After impacting the Cobalt, the Acura overturned, causing Macara to be ejected.

Macara was transported to the Christiana Hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition.

The driver of the Kia was transported to the Christiana Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Chevy was not injured.

Macara was charged with the following:

  • Aggressive Driving
  • Driving at Unreasonable Speed
  • Following Too Closely
  • Fail to Remain in Single Lane
  • Failure to Signal
  • No Proof of Insurance

I-495 southbound was closed for approximately 2 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
