Troopers Apprehend Burglary Suspect

Newark – The Delaware State Police have arrested John D. Cherwaty Jr., 44, of Elkton MD, for a burglary that took place at a Newark residence, Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday, October 11, 2018 at approximately 2:18 p.m., Troopers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of Old Baltimore Pike for a burglary in progress. Upon arriving on scene Troopers observed Cherwaty exiting a detached garage on the property and took him in to custody without incident. A subsequent investigation of the scene led to the recovery of property that had been removed from the garage and staged in close proximity of the structure, for later retrieval.

Cherwaty was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with one count each of Burglary 3rd Degree, Attempted Theft under $1500.00 and Criminal Mischief under $1000.00. He was then arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on $7500.00 unsecured bail.
