Date Posted: Monday, September 10th, 2018

Newark – The Delaware State Police with assistance from the Wilmington Field Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Baltimore Field Division, is continuing to investigate a burglary that took place at the Cabela’s Christiana Mall location in late August.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the Cabela’s, located at 1100 Christiana Mall, Newark. An employee who was working the overnight shift, was alerted to the ringing of the main entrance door motion sensor. The employee thought this was suspicious since the door should have been secured, so he proceeded to the area to investigate further. As he approached the doors he observed multiple suspects fleeing the store.

The investigation has determined that a total of four suspects were able to enter the store after prying open the entrance doors. A fifth suspect remained at the doors while the others proceeded inside. The suspects were able to remove an assortment of BB guns, and associated ammunition (detailed below) before fleeing to an awaiting vehicle that was parked on the ramp from northbound SR 1 to I-95 northbound.

The BB guns taken, which all resemble actual firearms consisted of the following:

  • BB Gun Air Rifle Machgun .177 cal.
  • M4-177 Rifle Kit
  • BB-177 Caliber Pump
  • Umarex Steel Force BB Gun
  • Umarex XBG .177 BB ammunition

Surveillance cameras were able to capture the following images of the five suspects.

The ATF is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for this crime. The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms industry, is also offering to match up to $1,000 of that reward, for a combined total possible reward of $3,500.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or who may know the identities or whereabouts of the suspects are asked to contact Detective D. DeFlaviis of the Troop 2 Criminal Investigative Unit at 302-365-8388.
