Troopers Arrest Wilmington Man After Pursuit

Christiana (19702)- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Wilmington man after he led them on a pursuit.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 7, 2018 at approximately 10:22 a.m., when Troopers observed a white Mercedes traveling at a high rate of speed on northbound John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway (I95) south of South Chapel Street.  The Trooper proceeded to activate their emergency equipment when the vehicle continued traveling at a high rate of speed and a pursuit ensued.  The Mercedes proceeded to exit I95 onto eastbound Rt. 273.  The vehicle eventually came to an abrupt stop at Augusta Drive and Malvina Drive, when the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot.   As the driver continued to flee, he knocked down a wooden fence located on private property.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Malik J. Wilson was located in a wooded area off of E. Cherokee Drive and E. Chestnut Hill Road and subsequently taken into custody.  A search of his vehicle yielded approximately 4.43 grams of marijuana.  Wilson was transported back to Troop 6 where he was charged with the following:

  • Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Reckless Driving
  • Aggressive Driving
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Driving Without a Valid License
  • Speeding
  • Failure to Stop At a Red Light (3 counts)

Wilson was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $8,600.00 secured bond.
