Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash – Laurel

Laurel – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a single vehicle, that occurred in Laurel, early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:53 a.m., Sunday, August 12, 2018, on Fire Tower Rd., approximately .4 miles north of U.S. 9 (County Seat Highway), Laurel. A 2004 Kia Optima, being operated, and solely occupied by an 18 year old Laurel woman, was traveling northbound on Fire Tower Rd., north of U.S. 9, at an apparent high rate of speed. While negotiating a left curve in the road, the operator over corrected and the vehicle began to spin. The Kia proceeded to slide off the roadway, before striking a tree, where the vehicle came rest.

The driver, who was not properly restrained, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending next of kin notification.

Fire Tower Rd. was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Cpl. J. Burns of the Troop7 Collision Reconstruction Unit at 302-644-5020.
