Traffic Stop Leads To Recovery of Stolen Handgun- Milton

Milton– Delaware State Police have charged Ricky D. Waters, 29, of Millsboro with weapons and drug offenses after he was stopped for a traffic violation.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2018 when a Trooper performed a traffic stop on a silver Lincoln Town Car on Coastal Highway (SR 1) in the area of Milton. Upon making contact with the driver who was identified as Waters, the Trooper could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle produced 1.7 grams of marijuana along with drug paraphernalia to include a scale, as well as an unloaded Hy Hunter 6 shot revolver handgun. Further investigation determined that the handgun had been stolen out of Maryland.

Waters was taken in to custody without incident and then transported to Troop 7 where he was arrested and charged with one count each of: Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited, Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving with a Suspended License and Failure to Yield the Right of Way.

Waters was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on $6850.00 unsecured bail.
