Troopers Make Multiple Arrest in Burglary Spree

Kent/New Castle County-  The Delaware State Police have arrested seven suspects with one suspect still at large in connection with a series of burglaries occurring at car dealerships and garages.  With the assistance of the Wilmington Police Department, the suspects involved were identified and all stolen vehicles have been recovered.

The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigative Units in Kent and New Castle Counties have been conducting an investigation involving multiple burglaries that began on June 16, 2018.  It was discovered that during these burglaries, multiple suspects either attempted to, or were successful in entering the closed businesses by damaging the exterior of the buildings.  Upon entering the businesses, the suspects would remove keys belonging to vehicles on the lot, and then would remove the vehicles.

There have been a total of six burglaries between June 16 and June 26, 2018:

  • June 16, 2018 attempted burglary at the CAR Shop located at 2205 Mitch Rd. Wilmington.
  • June 17, 2018 attempted burglary at the Major Motors, located at 2010 Mitch Rd. Wilmington.
  • June 18, 2018 burglary at the C&D Auto Sales located at 4644 DuPont Highway Townsend, in which vehicle keys, temporary DE registrations, and a laptop was taken.  The suspects then removed a blue 2001 Chrysler 300 from the lot.
  • June 19, 2018 attempted burglary at the CMJ Motors located at 4324 DuPont Highway Townsend.
  • June 19, 2018 burglary at the Intellicar, located at 375 Gateway S. Blvd. Dover, in which the suspects removed various keys and key fobs from inside the business.  The suspects were then successful in removing a silver 2016 Volkswagen Passat, a white 2015 Ford Explorer XLT, a gray 2015 Ford Fusion, and a gray 2014 Nissan Pathfinder from the lot.
  • June 26, 2018 burglary at the Willy Auto Repair located at 416 South Maryland Avenue, Wilmington, in which the suspects removed keys and were successful in removing a silver 1998 Lexus ES300, a blue 2007 blue Subaru Legacy, a black 2005 Mercedes Benz C2, and a green 2004 Nissan Quest from the lot.

The charges include: Burglary Third Degree, Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony, Attempt to Commit Burglary Third Degree, Possession of Burglar Tools, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Theft $1500 or Greater, Conspiracy Second Degree, Theft Under $1500, Criminal Mischief Over $1000, and Criminal Mischief  Under $1000.

The following individuals have been arrested for the incidents occurring at the CAR Shop, Major Motors, C&D Auto, CMJ Motors and Intellicar:

  • Devante Burton, 24 of Wilmington-arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and Committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $25,000.00 secured bond.
  • Elijah Pennewell, 16 of Wilmington-arraigned before Family Court and released to a guardian.
  • Daquane Woodruff, 20 of Wilmington-arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $27,000.00 secured bond.
  • Jalen Jackson, 20 of Wilmington-arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $29,500.00 secured bond.
  • Charles Bultron, 14 of Wilmington (C&D Auto incident only)-arraigned before Family Court and released to a guardian.

The following individuals have been arrested for the incident occurring at the Willy Auto Repair Shop:

  • Elijah Pennewell, 16 of Wilmington-arraigned before Family Court and released to a guardian.
  • Mercedes Pennewell, 17 of Wilmington-arraigned before Family Court and released to a guardian.
  • Jahlier Curtis, 15 of Wilmington-arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and  committed to the Ferris School on $5,000.00 secured bond.
  • Warrants are currently on file for Dakota Charles Khiefrieder,18 of New Castle regarding this incident.
