State Police Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Bicyclist – Felton

Felton – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist.

The preliminary investigation reveals the crash occurred early this morning between 3:15 a.m. and 3:44 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018 on (U.S. 13) South DuPont Highway southbound just south of Plymouth Road north of Felton, Delaware. An unknown white SUV was traveling southbound on (U.S. 13) South DuPont Highway in the area of the 9000 block of South DuPont Highway. A pedi-cyclist, operated by a 28-year-old man of Felton, was traveling southbound on the asphalt shoulder of South DuPont Highway in the same area.  The unknown vehicle struck the pedi-cyclist in the rear wheel on the southbound shoulder. The vehicle then continued southbound after striking the bicycle and did not stop. The man was projected forward and ejected off of his bicycle on the west edge of the southbound shoulder.

The operator of the white SUV fled the scene. A partial white bumper was left at the collision scene.

The 28-year-old man of Felton was not wearing a helmet. He did have a light on the brim of his hat and was wearing a red Polo shirt with high visibility lime safety straps. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The collision was reported by a passing motorist, and there are no known witnesses at the time.

U.S. 13 southbound had a right lane restriction only. It was open during the investigation.
