Troopers Arrest Georgetown Man for Burglary-Ellendale

Ellendale– The Delaware State Police have arrested a Georgetown man in connection with a residential burglary.

The incident occurred sometime between June 18, 2018 and July 3, 2018 at a residence located on the 14000 block of Beaver Dam Road.  The 40-year-old male victim reported that he was on vacation, and when he returned to his residence he noticed that property had been missing and a window was unsecured.  Further investigation revealed that a jar containing an undisclosed amount of money, approximately 50 crab traps, and scrap metal was taken.

Through investigative measures, Troopers were able to identify 29-year-old Eric B. Whitman as the suspect.  It was discovered that Whitman had taken the stolen metal to a scrap yard, signed the receipt indicating he was the owner, and received a cash payment.

On Saturday, July 7, 2018, Whitman was arrested and charged with Burglary Second Degree Dwelling, Theft $1500 or Greater, Selling Stolen Property Value Over $1500, Theft Under $1500, Theft By False Pretense Under $1500, and Falsifying Business Records.  He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $17,000.00 secured bond.
