Dover – Delaware State Police continue to investigate a crash involving an overturned tractor trailer, which was hauling scrap metal, that occurred at approximately 2:38 p.m., Friday June 8, 2018 on Scarborough Road east of N. Dupont Highway (Rt. 13), Dover.
The initial investigation has determined that a 2007 Peterbilt tractor trailer, loaded with steel beams, which was operated by a 24 year old Coatesville, Pennsylvania man, proceeded to turn right from northbound, N. DuPont Highway onto Scarborough Road eastbound. While negotiating the turn the load shifted, causing the vehicle to overturn onto it’s left side. As a result of the vehicle overturning the steel beams spilled onto the roadway causing the closure of all lanes of Scarborough Road.
The driver who was properly restrained was uninjured. He was cited for Failure To Drive at an Appropriate Speed for Roadway Conditions.
Scarborough Road east of N. DuPont was closed for approximately 4.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
