Wilmington (19808)– The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a serious crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on Friday, May 11, 2018 at approximately 8:57 p.m. on eastbound Kirkwood Highway (DE SR 2) at Duncan Road.

The initial investigation has determined that a 2009 Honda Accord, was traveling in the center lane of DE SR 2 at the intersection of Duncan Road.  As the Honda continued east from Duncan Road, a pedestrian, 30-year-old woman of Wilmington walked out into the eastbound lanes of DE SR 2 from the center concrete median and into the path of the Honda.  The front of the Honda struck the pedestrian, causing her to be thrown into the left lane of travel where she came to rest.  The operator of the Honda was able to come to a controlled stop and remained on scene.

The pedestrian was not utilizing a marked crosswalk, wearing any type of reflective material, or carrying a flashlight. She was transported to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries. It is unknown at this time if impairment is a contributing factor on her behalf.

The 37-year-old female operator of the Honda was properly restrained and not injured as a result of this crash.  Neither impairment nor speed on the part of the operator are a factor in this collision.

Traffic was restricted to the far right lane on eastbound DE SR 2 as the collision was investigated and cleared.
