Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest – Townsend

Townsend – The Delaware State Police Governor’s Task Force (GTF), with the assistance of Probation and Parole officers, have arrested a Townsend man on multiple drug related offenses, after being stopped for a traffic violation.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2018, GTF members observed a silver Cadillac DeVille being driven in an erratic manner on Summit Bridge Road (DE 71) northbound, north of U.S. 13, Townsend. A traffic stop was initiated and after an extended period of time the vehicle came to a stop in the driveway of a residence in the 6000 block of Summit Bridge Road.

As GTF members approached the vehicle in order to make contact with the driver, who was later identified as Robert G. Collins Jr., 53, of Townsend, they observed him throw an object out of the passenger’s side window. Task force members were able to recover the thrown object, which proved to be three bundles of heroin.

A subsequent search of Collins’ person as well as the Cadillac produced the following:

  • 416 bags of heroin (32 bundles) totaling 2.192 grams
  • 5 grams of marijuana
  • $1,995.00 in suspected drug money

Collins was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2 where he was formally charged with:

  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 2 Quantity
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 2 Quantity
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Failure to Remain in a Single Lane of Travel

Collins was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $11,050.00 secured bail.
