Troopers Investigating Armed Robbery of Newark Area Dry Cleaner

Newark – Delaware State Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Newark area dry cleaning business that occurred yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m., Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the VIP Cleaners, located at 2430 Pulaski Highway, Newark. A Hispanic male subject entered the business and approached a 50 year old female employee at the sales counter, pointed a handgun at her, while handing her a bag. The employee placed an undisclosed amount of money from the register into the bag and handed it back over to the suspect, who then fled in an unknown direction. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male with a thin build, wearing a black jacket, black pants, black knit hat, black fabric covering the lower portion of his face and in possession of a black handgun.

No surveillance photos are available at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Troop 2 Robbery Unit at 302-365-8566.
