On Tuesday, October 17th, 2017, The Delaware State Police Troop 5 administration hosted an event to better connect with the children and teens in the Coverdale Crossroads area.  In conjunction with DSP’s Community Outreach Unit, Troop 5 hosted “Scoops with Troops” for youth 16 and under living in the Coverdale Area.  DSP arranged for the Vanderwende Farm Creamery ice cream truck to come to the Coverdale Community Center at 11575 Fisher Circle, Bridgeville, to give away free ice cream and to meet some of the troopers who serve their community.

 “Over the last month and a half, Coverdale and the surrounding community experienced a number of unfortunate and tragic events resulting in loss of lives. When crime strikes nearby, we know many good, hardworking families are impacted.  But, fear can especially touch children and teens,” explained Troop 5 Commander Captain Alice J. Brumbley.  “We want our young neighbors to know we are their partners in making their world better.  Just like their support systems at school and home, they can count on us when they encounter problems.  We are so proud of what they have accomplished already in their first month of school.  With all that is happening in the world, it’s time to pause and celebrate life’s joys together.  Little is sweeter than sharing a smile and an afterschool snack with neighbors like these.”

We had a great time during this community event which was held to foster a stronger relationship between the community members and law enforcement Officers. Troopers played football and enjoyed ice cream with the families from the Coverdale community. We thank everyone who made this event a success!
