Fatal Selbyville

Selbyville – At the request of Selbyville Police Department, the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a crash that occurred at the end of September resulting in the death of an operator.

The incident occurred Friday September 29, 2017 around 11:10 a.m. as Philip E. Lockwood, 73 of Selbyville, was operating a 2015 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Lighthouse Road (SR54) approaching Hudson Road which did not have a stop sign or traffic signal.  A 63-year -old Barrington, New Jersey man was operating a 2011 Kia Soul southbound on Hudson Road approaching a clearly marked stop sign at the intersection with SR54.  For undetermined reasons, the Kia failed to stop at the stop sign and entered into the path of the Jeep which struck the Kia on the right front side within the intersection.  After the impact, the Jeep rotated in a clockwise manner and exited the southeast corner of the intersection where it came to a stop after striking a utility pole with the left rear side.  The Kia continued in a southeasterly direction and came to a stop in the grass just south of the shoulder of SR54.

Philip Lockwood was properly restrained and transported from the scene by EMS to Beebe Healthcare where he had been admitted until he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday October 15, 2017.

The 63-year-old operator of the Kia was properly restrained and transported by EMS to Peninsula Regional Medical Center with undetermined injuries.  A 62-year-old female passenger was properly restrained and was airlifted by LifeNet to Christiana Medical Center with undetermined injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.  Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in this case.  No charges have been filed at this time.
