Wilmington – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a two vehicle crash which has claimed the life of a Wilmington woman.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 11:37 a.m. this morning, Thursday, September 7, 2017, as a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, operated by Marilyn Ben, 23 of Wilmington was exiting onto westbound New Linden Hill Road from the shopping center located at the northwest corner of New Linden Hill Road and Pike Creek Boulevard (shopping center with the Wawa and Walgreens). The Chevrolet Equinox proceeded from the stop sign and entered into the westbound lane of New Linden Hill Road. The 2013 Honda CRS, operated by Lynette Reid, 45 of Newark, was traveling westbound on New Linden Hill Road from the area of Pike Creek Boulevard.  The Chevrolet Equinox entered into the path of the Honda CRS. The operator of the Honda CRS was unable to avoid the collision causing the right front of the CRS to strike the driver side rear door area of the Equinox.  Following impact, both vehicles traveled a short distance in a southwesterly direction before coming to rest.

All operators and passengers were wearing seatbelts.

Marylyn Ben, 23 of Wilmington, did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision. Both of the right front passenger and left rear passenger were both treated on scene by the New Castle County Paramedics before being transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital. Mina Pirestani, 54 of Wilmington, the right front seat passenger, was pronounced deceased a short time later at the Christiana Hospital. Fakhir Pirestani, 92 of Wilmington was the left rear seat passenger was admitted for non-life threatening injuries.  Lynette Reid, 45 of Newark, was also transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital where she was admitted for non-life threatening injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Neither impairment nor high speed appear to be contributing factors on the part of either operator. No charges have been filed at this time.

New Linden Hill Road between Pike Creek Boulevard and Skyline Drive was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
