Bridgeville – The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that occurred mid-morning Saturday.

The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. Saturday April 29, 2017 as a 72-year-old male was operating a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Newton Road negotiating a slight right curve just east of Adams Road.  A 2012 Cadillac CTS was traveling westbound on Newton Road approaching the motorcycle while negotiating the same curve to the left.  For unknown reasons, the motorcycle crossed the center line of the road and struck the left side of the Cadillac in the west bound lane.  After impact, the motorcyclist and motorcycle slid on the left side and came to a stop in the westbound lane.  The Cadillac came to a controlled stop on the westbound shoulder, just east of Adams Road.

The 72-year-old motorcyclist was wearing an approved D.O.T. helmet and was airlifted to Christiana Medical Center where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

The adult male operator of the Cadillac and his adult male passenger were properly restrained and uninjured.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.  Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this case for either driver.  Newton Road between Adams Road and US13 was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
