Troopers Arrest Man Following String of Parking Lot Robberies

Wilmington- Delaware State Police have arrested a Wilmington man and charged him in connection with a series of parking lot robberies that have occurred in a Wilmington area shopping center.

On Wednesday, March 22, 2017, detectives arrested Zachary L. Jewell, 20, of Wilmington, after he was stopped by the Wilmington Police Department for a traffic violation. An officer at the scene realized that the vehicle Jewell was operating (Honda Accord) matched the description of the vehicle which had been observed fleeing a series of armed robberies which had occurred in the parking lot of the Apollo Shopping Center located at 3615 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington. In each incident a male suspect would approach the victim as they were in the parking lot of the shopping center. He would then display a firearm and demand money. The victims all complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to him. He would then flee the area. There were no injuries.

Troopers responded to the scene of the car stop and took Jewell into custody. He was then transported to Troop 2 where he was subsequently charged with four counts of Robbery 1st Degree after he was linked to robberies which occurred in the shopping center on Friday, March 10, 2017, Monday, March 13, 2017, Thursday, March 16, 2017, and Sunday, March 19, 2017. He was arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in default of $20,000.00 secured bail.
